I am pained -- Mikel Arteta reflects on Manchester City title win

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, has expressed his thoughts on the end of their pursuit of the Premier League title following their 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The defeat mathematically ensured that Manchester City would be crowned champions before their scheduled clash against Chelsea on Sunday.

Reflecting on the outcome, Arteta acknowledged the challenges his team faced during the crucial run-in period, which ultimately led to their collapse in the title race.

“We have witnessed a significant transformation at this club, achieving remarkable progress. However, the ultimate goal was to secure a championship, and unfortunately, we fell short,” admitted Arteta.

The Arsenal boss highlighted the difficulties encountered by the team in recent weeks, emphasizing the importance of having every player performing at their peak during April and May, a period that proved to be critical in their campaign.

“It has been a challenging few weeks for us. We needed the entire team to be at their very best during this crucial stage, and unfortunately, that did not materialize,” Mikel Arteta explained.

The defeat at Nottingham Forest delivered a blow to Arsenal’s title hopes, leaving the team and its supporters disheartened. Despite the disappointment, Arteta underlined the team’s commitment to providing their loyal fans with a deserving performance in their upcoming fixtures.

“The pain is evident today and will linger tomorrow, but we owe it to our fans to deliver the performance they deserve in the following matches,” Mikel Arteta expressed in an interview with BBC Match of the Day.

As Arsenal contemplates a season without claiming the league title, the focus now shifts towards finishing the campaign strongly and potentially securing a European qualification spot.

The disappointment of missing out on the championship will undoubtedly serve as motivation for Arteta and his squad to regroup, learn from their experiences, and strive for success in the future.
