“How I have been brutalized, locked up for months” – Charly Boy shares experience
Charly Boy, the iconic Nigerian singer and activist, has recently revealed his harrowing experience of being subjected to brutalization and confinement for several months.
Known for his unwavering commitment to social activism and advocacy for good governance in Nigeria, Charly Boy, fondly referred to as “Area Father,” shared some of the ordeals he faced in his quest for a better society.
Taking to his official Twitter account, Charly Boy opened up about the challenges he encountered as an activist, highlighting a specific instance where he was unjustly locked up by security operatives for his involvement in the “Our Mumu Don Do” movement.
The movement, which he spearheaded, aimed to raise awareness and demand accountability from the Nigerian government.
Reflecting on his journey as an activist, Charly Boy expressed that the various ugly experiences he has faced since 1966 have profoundly shaped his perspective and made him resilient.
Despite enduring immense hardship and oppression, he affirmed that he has remained steadfast in his commitment to advocating for positive change in Nigeria.
He tweeted, “As an individual, a citizen of this once great country and the Area Fada, I can say that I have seen it all, now am soft like butter.
“I was young when the Union Jack was lowered into oblivion. I saw hope perish in 1966 and the wanton destruction that followed in 1967.
“I watched my beloved father clear a path to national healing in 1999. I have seen even more since then. I sabi how water enters coconut. I have been brutalized, tear gassed, locked up for months, rendered poor by our nonsensical security force”.
