He is overrated — Didi Hamann blasts Liverpool star

Former Liverpool midfield maestro, Didi Hamann has picked out former Bayern Munich star, Thiago Alcantara as one of Europe’s most overrated player while analyzing the Spaniard’s game and his influence to the Reds’ team.

According to Didi Hamann, Thiago Alcantara is a player that thrives in a possession based team than one who works well in a pressing team.

In his analysis of the Spaniard, Hamann says he finds it difficult to understand the hype surrounding the 32-year-old as an elite player.

The former German international considers Alcantara as rather a decent player as opposed to the hype Europe gives him.

Speaking about the Spanish midfielder, Hamann said on talkSPORT:

“He is the most overrated player in European football.

“When things are going well and you have a lot of possession, he is a good player, but when it is time to put things in their place and take control, he doesn’t.

“I don’t understand the hype that is given to him. He is a decent player, not a great player, as many people have said.”

Thiago Alcantara was the only midfield signing Liverpool made in 2020 prior to this summer transfer midfield overhaul.

The former Barcelona star joined the Reds from Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich in a fee that rounds the figure of £30m with added bonuses.
