Girona coach tipped to replace Guardiola at Manchester City

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag did promise that eras do end and it appears the eras of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are finally coming to their respective end.

According to reports, the former Barcelona boss could be ready to bow out from Manchester City a year after Jurgen Klopp departs Liverpool, with speculations already emerging on the manager that could replace the Spaniard at the Etihad.

Miguel Ángel Michel, head coach of Girona, is reportedly in contention to replace Pep Guardiola at Manchester City if the current manager steps down, according to the Daily Mail. Guardiola, whose contract with the Premier League champions runs until June 2025, is now expected to leave upon its expiration.

Following Manchester City’s recent triumph in securing a fourth consecutive league title, Guardiola hinted at his possible departure.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said,

“The reality is I’m closer to leaving than to staying. It’s eight years, it will be nine. Right now my feeling is I want to stay next season.”

Michel has garnered significant attention this season by leading Girona to a strong campaign, ultimately finishing third and securing a spot in next season’s Champions League. Girona is also part of the City Football Group, which enhances Michel’s prospects of taking over at City.

Should Guardiola decide to move on, Manchester City would consider Michel as a potential successor, impressed by his achievements and leadership at Girona.
