DC Movies Fans See Light in The Tunnel With James Gunn

When it comes to having fun times in the movies, DC fans have been a subject to the banter era owing to the company’s lackluster release of movies from its end compared to its Marvel counterpart. But that seems about to change with the announcement of Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn coming into the show.

The director had seen his career revived after Disney initially had him fired from the third Guardians of the Galaxy film when Warner Bros promptly hired him to direct the Suicide Squad revival of the David Ayer 2016 film.

But now, it seems his hierarchy within the DC world of movies and the comic book film world is about to change with the announcement that he is to oversee the entire DC films division along with Peter Safran in a move by the new Warner Bros owners, Discovery to copy Marvel Studios.

The duo would operate in the role of a Kevin Feige like mode to oversee the release of the movies released under the new division of DC studios, which in comparison to its Marvel counterpart will bring a lot of hype and excitement for its fans.

On James Gunn end, he has achieved quite the positive profile with his movies for DC as his recent film, The Suicide Squad achieved quite the critical and audience acclaim despite poor showing in the Covid era.

The duo will report to David Zaslav and assume the title of co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios. This follows the announcement by Henry Cavill on his Instagram page of his return to the DC movies as famed superhero, Superman after a hiatus from the character.

Like Dwayne Johnson said, the hierarchy of power in the DC universe is really changing.

DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe,” David Zaslav said in statement.

Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.”

Top WBD executives include TV head Channing Dungey, Casey Bloys of HBO and HBO Max, Kathleen Finch, chair and chief content officer of US Networks Group, Pam Lifford, and David Haddad of Warner Interactive Entertainment will collaborate alongside Gunn and Safran. Resources will be shared among all departments at DC Studios.

We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children. We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved.

Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told.” Gunn and Safran said in a statement.

The hiring is effective Nov. 1 and comes as De Luca and Abdy, who assumed their positions in early July, have been making creative decisions and managing postproduction on everything from The Flash to Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.

A light at the end of the tunnel for the fandom of DC movies.
