As Ogun State residents prepare for the forthcoming local government elections scheduled for November 16, 2024, politicians and stakeholders in Ijebu North Local Government, have lamented the alleged imposition of a candidate by the State Secretary,  Tokunbo Talabi.

In a virtual conversation, one of the political stakeholders in the local government area (name withheld), said the local government area has rich intellectual leaders within the party. Still, they have been ignored without their consultation.

“Tokunbo Talabi is trying to impose his favourite candidate on us as the Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government. He is trying to impose on the leaders and party members of Ijebu Igbo. This was the same gesture during the last local government election,” the source said.

He warned that failure to allow party members to choose their preferred candidate may amount to a crisis.

He said: “We want the governor to be aware that the imposition gesture by his aide is gradually becoming a crisis in Ijebu North Local Government and we are calling on him to quickly intervene before it escalates. The leaders do not support his preferred candidate and he also failed to consult them.”

He urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to summon Ijebu North Leaders and hold a meeting with them and also caution his aide.

“We want the governor to call the leaders in Ijebu North Local Government to resolve the brewing crisis,” he said.
