Buhari shows women support, berates Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has shown his support for Nigerian women as they observe the 16-day activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

The campaign started on November 25 (International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women) and will end on December 10 (World Human Rights Day).

Buhari received Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

He noted that women are the bedrock of the society and largely responsible for stabilizing the home front.

The President said his faith in their capability remains steadfast as exemplified by the key positions they occupy in his administration.

“I assure you that I will always be here for you and you can count on my support in your activities”, the Nigerian leader promised.

Tallen briefed Buhari on enlightenment activities of her ministry towards the international crusade against GBV.

She presented the President with commemorative items to mark his identification with women.

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year.
