Black Christmas as gunmen Invade Popular Nigerian church, kill worshippers

Hoodlums suspected to be gunmen on Sunday night invaded Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Nkweagu in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.

The hoodlums stormed the church at about 11:30pm during the Christmas vigil mass, killing three worshippers and injuring others.

The Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Nworie, confirmed the incident on Monday.

The Bishop described the incident as sad, disheartening and prayed for the repose of their souls.

According to Mr Nworie, such unfortunate act had never happened in Church in the state.

“This is the first time such an incident is happening in the Church and in Ebonyi state in general,” the Bishop said.

Earlier, the clergy in his sermon, encouraged people to align themselves with the significant and teaching of the Christmas.
