Rivers crisis: I have accepted Tinubu’s peace deal – Fubara declares

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has claimed that he has accepted the conditions of President Bola Tinubu’s peace plan to end the state’s lengthy political conflict.

The situation erupted when Fubara clashed with his predecessor, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a countrywide broadcast to celebrate the 2023 Christmas celebration, the governor stated that he had accepted the peace treaty.

He said that the presidential involvement has contributed to the settlement of the state’s political conflict.

Fubara, who admitted that the orders have elicited a range of emotions throughout the state, said that he had spent much time scrutinizing the wording of the agreement and believes it is not as awful as many believe.

He said: “As a principal participant in the entire saga, I have taken some time to study the terms therein and have come to the conclusion that the Peace Pact is not as bad as it is being portrayed by those genuinely opposed to it.

“It is certainly not a death sentence. It offers some way towards lasting peace and stability in our dear state.

“Accordingly, I reaffirm my acceptance of the Presidential Peace Proclamation and my commitment to implementing both the spirit and letters of the declaration in such a way and manner that will restore political stability to our dear state without compromising the collective interest of our people and our cherished and shared democratic values.”

He emphasized that all sides in the crisis have made strong actions in carrying out the declaration, emphasizing that there is no price too high for peace.
