Bayelsa Assembly approves Diri's N2.9bn loan to buy cars

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved Governor Douye Diri’s request for a N2.9 billion loan to enable his administration to purchase operational vehicles for himself, the deputy governor, and others.

A lawmaker, Monday Buluo-Obolo raised a motion on the floor of the House on Wednesday, urging the House to grant the request as it would ensure the smooth running of the new government.

Buluo-Obolo convinced the House that the proposed loan facility has a repayment plan of 36 months, adding that other projects by the government would not be affected.

The motion was unanimously supported by other lawmakers.

The Assembly Speaker, Abraham Ingobere said the House would convey the approval of the loan request to Diri.

Diri was sworn-in on the 14th of February following the INEC compliance to the Supreme Court ruling that sacked the All Progressives Congress, APC’s David Lyon as the governor-elect.

Diri took the oath of office and allegiance as the fifth executive governor of the State.

Diri’s request for the N2.9 billion loan to purchase new vehicles raises the question of what might have happened to the cars used during the immediate past administration of Seriake Dickson.
