Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Why this game means more for Arsenal

The FA Cup 3rd round fixture brings viewers what perhaps might be the weekend’s biggest game, as Arsenal are set to play host to a visiting Liverpool side.

Having taken a back seat in the title conversation, though not totally off mounting a challenge again, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners find themselves the best opportunity to win back fans and boost the team’s own confidence ahead of the Premier League’s return.

With two back to back defeats to West Ham United at the London Stadium and to Fulham at the Emirates, Arsenal stand a chance to regain its fear factor by stealing a win against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool; the very team who stole its place at the top spot of the league.

Though a win against the Reds will mean nothing to the premier league standings, progress into the 4th round of the FA Cup, ahead of Liverpool, will bring back the belief this Arsenal team will need if they hope to make a comeback for the premier league title race.

Football in as much as it is a game of numbers, has become more of a game of mental strength, hence a win against a top rival could be the edge an underperforming side needs to gets its season back on track.

Arsenal vs. Liverpool: Why this game means more for Arsenal

Liverpool currently find themselves enjoying a good form in terms of consistency and getting out the results against opponents, however the Reds now face a problem that most people may have overlooked, and that is injuries and absence of specific key players.

This of course has the potential of hampering their season if situations take on a darker turn for the Reds who by current reports, will not be venturing into the January transfer market.

And like the saying goes; ‘one man’s poison, is another man’s apple’.

Hence if Arsenal can get a win over Liverpool, the absence of certain key players would and should serve as the advantage the Gunners need to return into the chase.
