Anambra installs technology equipment to tackle exam malpractice

The Anambra State Government, on Monday, disclosed that plans were in progress to begin the installation of technology equipment to monitor examinations in public schools across the state.
The State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof. Kate Omenugha, declared this in an interview with Top Naija in Awka, Anambra State.
Omenugha stated that the inventiveness would help to eradicate examination malpractice in the state.
The Commissioner said that the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, had approved to install Internet Protocol (IP) cameras in examination halls of all public schools in the state.
She said, “The installation of these IP cameras is part of the revolutionary plans to improve education in the state.
“This technology will help us watch and monitor students while they take exams such as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or the Junior WAEC.
“It will prevent students from cheating during exams as well as help instil in our students the confidence that they need to face examinations without any external aid.”
Omenugha added that private schools in the state had been instructed to likewise install IP cameras in their examination halls.
She further stated that any school that support and allow examination malpractice might have to take their students outside the state for examinations.
Omenugha said, “The state government’s position is to close down any of such schools operating in the state.”
