Amotekun arrests two underage boys for shop theft in Osogbo
The Osun State chapter of the Amotekun Corps has arrested two young boys for breaking into a shop in Osogbo and stealing food items and cash.
According to Retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the state Amotekun Commander, the boys, aged 13 and 11, gained entry into the shop in Asubiaro, Osogbo, in the early hours of Saturday and made away with recharge cards, noodles, beverages and cash.
The suspects were apprehended in an uncompleted building at about 6.24 pm on the same day after the incident was reported to the Amotekun Osogbo Command by the shop owner.
Adewinmbi stated that the boys were caught with some of the stolen items in their possession, and during interrogation, they confessed to committing the crime.
The Commander narrated: “The duo was arrested at their hideout after our operatives received intelligence about their location.
“The suspects were caught with some of the stolen items still in their possession and during interrogation, they confessed to perpetrating the act,” Adewinmbi said.
The parents of the boys, who came for their release, pleaded with the shop owner and agreed to pay for the damages and the stolen items.
The Amotekun commander added that the suspects had been released to their parents after an agreement was reached with the shop owner.
Adewinmbi advised parents to ensure they train their children to be upright and monitor their activities, including the company they keep.
He urged parents to be watchful of their children’s movements and always be aware of their whereabouts.
