Hillary Yunana, a 19-year-old boy, has been sentenced to four months behind bars for stealing spaghetti and noodles from a shop in Abuja.

The sentence was delivered by Judge Sani Umar of Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, Abuja, on Thursday.

The convict, a resident of Bassa village, along Airport road, Abuja, was charged with burglary and theft.

According to the prosecution counsel, Abudulahi Tanko, the convict had broken into the shop of one Gift Ugochukwu, of the same address on March 4.

Tanko said that the Yunana had stolen seven pieces of spaghetti, five pieces of indomie noodles and a cash sum of N10,000, all valued at N13,000.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 346 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The judge sentenced Yunana after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged the court for leniency.

Umar, however, gave the convict an option to pay the sum of N10,000 for each of the offences, or serve a jail-term of two months each for the offences.

He also said that the sentence would run concurrently and warned him to desist from committing crime in the future.

Umar said the sentence would serve as deterrence to anyone who wants to tow that depraved path in the future.
