Oil production has commenced at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13 in Akwa Ibom, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Exploration and Production Limited (NNPC E&P) and Natural Oilfield Services Limited (NOSL) spearheading the effort.

According to a statement by Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer at NNPC, production commenced on May 6, 2024, initially yielding 6,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd). The national oil company aims to increase production to 40,000 bpd by May 27, 2024.
