Fire destroys numerous shanties in Ebute Meta, Lagos

Numerous shanties have been razed down to ashes by fire at Okobaba, Ebute Metta area of Lagos State earlier today, TopNaija understands.

TopNaija gathered that the fire outbreak started a few minutes past 07 pm on Sunday.

The cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.

An eyewitness, Amodu Shehu, lamented that the incident recurred one year after the area was gutted by fire.

It was reported that in the November 8, 2019 fire outbreak, no fewer than five buildings, and many shanties were razed, including a bakery.

The inferno, which lasted about three hours in 2019, gutted buildings and shanties on Jebba, Okobaba, Tapa, Coates, and Kano streets around noon.

 

It also rendered thousands of people homeless, with some having to sleep at the burnt site, Okobaba Football Pitch, and Okobaba Sawmill for many days.

 

Over 20 minutes after first filing this report, firefighters arrived the scene of the fire outbreak at Jebba by Okobaba street, Ebute Metta.

However, as of  2.10 p.m., efforts to douse the fire had yielded no results. Meanwhile, residents of the area have started evacuating their properties. As of 2.15 p.m. our reporter observed that the crowd at the scene of the burning building had increased
