UNIJOS graduates 20,532 students

The University of Jos in Plateau State is preparing to hold its 33rd and 34th convocation ceremony on Saturday, during which a total of 20,532 students will graduate.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ishaya Tanko, revealed this during a pre-convocation press briefing on Wednesday. He added that 112 of the students will receive first-class honors degrees, while others will be awarded different degrees, including 159 PhDs, 3,669 Masters, 281 postgraduate diplomas, 11,281 Bachelors, and 5,142 from affiliate institutions.

The Vice Chancellor of UNIJOS also disclosed that 3,093 students will graduate with Second Class Honors (Upper Division), 6,325 with Second Class (Lower Division), 1,361 with Third Class, and 281 with Pass Division, while 109 students will graduate with Pass qualified for Pharmacy and Veterinary Medicine programs. He noted that the highlight of the convocation ceremony would be the investiture of His Highness, Mallam Nuhu Bamali, Emir of Zauzau, as the new Chancellor of the University of Jos.

Tanko added that the Chancellor would be conferred with the Doctor of Laws Degree (LL.D.) Honoris Causa, alongside two other eminent Nigerians. Former Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Elias Bogoro, will receive a Doctor of Science, while the former Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland, Ambassador Yahaya Kwande, will receive Doctors of Letters.

The convocation ceremony is a significant event in the university’s academic calendar, as it marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication by the graduating students. It also provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the students and their contributions to the university and society as a whole.
