‘Gbona’ is a politically conscious music, in which Burna Boy subtly addresses the direct relativity of one’s wealth to their respectability. There is also the reminder to enjoy oneself and ’Jeun soke’ when the opportunity presents itself, but always stay sharp.
As usual, the messages on the track are delivered with a light tone. The instrumental is very traditional afrobeats, and Burna Boy pays tribute to Fela with one of his popular phrases.
The video, directed by Clarence Peters, is a visual masterpiece that takes us home. Again, we see tributes to Fela with dances commonly associated with his dancers and costumes that are a modern adaptation of their style.
