Will Smith, Jada Pinkett react to Academy’s 10-year ban
American actor, rapper, and film producer, Will Smith has reacted to the Academy’s decision to ban him from events for a decade.
Recall that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Friday April 8, that Will has been banned from all of the organization’s events for 10 years for slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
Will Smith will however keep the Oscar he won this year for his role in “King Richard.” Responding to this in a brief statement to Page Six on Friday, the actor said;
“I accept and respect the Academy’s decision”
Last week, Smith announced he was resigning from the Academy, meaning he could not vote but was still able to be nominated and attend the awards show.
Meanwhile, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith are reportedly in agreement that the famous actor overreacted when he went on stage and slapped Chris Rock during the Academy Awards ceremony.
US Weekly reported that the couple have discussed about the incident and agreed that Smith shouldn’t have overreacted at the gala.
“It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting,” said an unnamed insider.”He knows that, she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted.
“She’s not one of these women that needs protecting. He didn’t need to do what he did, she didn’t need protecting. She’s not a wallflower.
“She’s a strong woman, an opinionated woman and she can fight her own battles. But she will stand by him.”
Smith will reportedly seek expert help to deal with stress by spending some time in a rehabilitation clinic.
