Why Reece James keeps getting injured -- Paul Merson

Despite being regarded as one of the top Right-Backs in the game, Reece James has seen his Chelsea career endure a frustrating time on the pitch side, or perhaps a lack of time on it.

Since his introduction as a main stay in the Chelsea squad, the England international has suffered one injury to another, starting from the 2020/21 season with Reece James enduring minor setbacks that have ruined his game.

The injury layoffs have affected his game time for both club and country, with the Chelsea captain famously missing out on the Euro 2020.

However, for former Arsenal player and legend, Paul Merson, the blame rests on Reece James.

Though expressing empathy for the Chelsea captain’s plight, the pundit faults James for rushing his recovery and risking yet another injury setback.

“It is rather unfortunate that one of [Chelsea’s] best players, Reece James, is now sidelined for a long time again,” Merson said.

“He seems to be rushing himself back because he clearly loves playing football,” Merson noted, acknowledging James’s enthusiasm for the sport but also faulting the Chelsea star for being hasty in returning to the pitch.

“But with these injuries, one has to be patient.” Merson advised.

Reece James suffered yet another string of injuries this season, and had to undergo hamstring surgery following his premature exit in Chelsea’s match against Everton.

The setback adds to a tumultuous season for the player who has so far accumulated just 451 minutes of on-field action for the Blues.
