Why Arsenal lost to Liverpool at the Emirates

From starting the season on a promising form, Arsenal stand on the verge of ending the season without a chance at silverware again.

Arsenal’s FA Cup journey hit a snag as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium, with Martin Keown, an Arsenal legend, pinpointing three individuals for the Reds’ opening goal in Sunday’s third-round encounter.

The defeat unfolded with Jakub Kiwior inadvertently directing the ball into his own net from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross, marking an own goal that initiated Liverpool’s victory. Luis Diaz sealed the win with a late goal for the visiting team.

Keown, speaking on BBC One, scrutinized the defensive contributions of centre-half Gabriel Magalhães, implying that a different header direction could have altered the outcome of the play. Additionally, he questioned the response time of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, suggesting a delay in his movement off the goal line.

He expressed on air,

“I just wondered if Gabriel could have headed it the other way, he seemed to just collapse.

“The goalkeeper can’t get to it, Ramsdale is late to move off. Kiowor, I feel he should be doing a lot better. Of course, he is not doing that deliberately. But there is always something you can do to improve that.”
