“We were at the party together, and at some point, she came over while performing. I’m more of an armchair dancer, but she pulled me up, and we had a bit of a twirl,” Silva recalled, her voice tinged with emotion.

Onwenu’s final song, “One Love,” echoed through the room as she and Silva shared their last dance. Moments later, Onyeka Onwenu returned to her seat and suddenly collapsed. Despite immediate medical intervention, including CPR, Onwenu could not be revived.

Silva’s recount of Onwenu’s last moments highlights not only the fragility of life but also the enduring spirit of the legendary singer, who, even in her final moments, brought joy to those around her. The tragic event has left a lasting impression on all who knew and admired Onwenu, with her legacy firmly etched in the hearts of many.

Onwenu was laid to rest on August 30 at the Ebony Vaults in Ikoyi, Lagos, following a service of songs attended by notable figures such as Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti. Her memory, much like her music, continues to resonate deeply within the Nigerian entertainment industry and beyond.
