We Could Only Beat Senegal Because We Were Ruthless—Southgate Confesses

There was only one way and one outcome the game between England and Senegal could go before any side could proceed into the next round of the world cup tournament, and for England coach, Gareth Southgate it was all thanks to the ruthless attitude his players in attack brought to the game.

The reason why England defeated Senegal 3-0 in the two teams’ World Cup round-of-16 match on Sunday night was outlined by manager Gareth Southgate.

Southgate saw as England defeated Senegal at Al Bayt Stadium thanks to three goals from Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, and Jordan Henderson.

As a result, England will now play France on Saturday in the round of eight.

The Three Lions’ willingness to take chances was emphasized by Southgate as his favorite performance-related lesson following the game. He also noted that his players worked both with and without the ball.

“I think the ruthlessness of our execution (was my favourite part),” Southgate told ITV.

“But the way the team worked off the ball, and without the ball. I think in the end we were a bit sticky with the ball in the first 25-30 minutes.

Senegal had a lot of energy, they pressed well, and their shape was good. And really our best opportunities came from winning the ball from them.”
