We Bow Our Heads in Shame—Laporta on Barcelona's Defeat

From Champions League giants, to Europa League battlers, Barcelona indeed has truly fallen, and for the Catalans’ president, Joan Laporta, he considers the fall a shame where blames would do no one any good.

And rightly so, pointing blames on either the players or the manager wouldn’t reverse the misfortune of the game against Bayern Munich, as this for Joan Laporta is the new reality the club must face in current times.

The La Liga club was one of the three Spanish clubs to be eliminated from the group stages of the tournament and relegated into the Europa league following a 3-0 loss to rivals, Bayern Munich at home in the Camp Nou.

The Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, reacted to his team’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League this season, stating:

“It’s a shame, but you can’t blame the players or the coach for anything,” Laporta told Barca TV.

“We have to look forward because we have La Liga and other competitions left.”

The Catalans went into the game on Wednesday, obviously with hopes and fate taken out of their hands with group rivals, Inter Milan stealing away a victory against Viktoria Plzen to leave Barcelona the only option of defeating Bayern Munich to keep their hopes of a knock out qualification alive.

As it turned out on the night, the option was only one of despair than hope as Barcelona themselves succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at home.

Reacting, Joan Laporta said that it was a shame to see Barca crash out of the tournament to the 3-0 goal deficit to Bayern in Spain.

Barcelona will now have one more inconsequential game to play against Viktoria Plzen in November before heading to the Europa League.
