The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will present the certificate of return to President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, on Wednesday.

Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, was declared the President-elect after polling 8,794,726 votes to win the 2023 presidential election. INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, announced Tinubu as the winner at the International Collation Centre in Abuja.

The commission had earlier declared Tinubu as the winner ahead of other contenders, including the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar; the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi; and the New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

After announcing Tinubu as the winner, Yakubu revealed that the commission would be presenting the certificate of return to Tinubu and Shettima at the International Collation Centre in Abuja to allow the commission enough time to adequately plan for the governorship election scheduled for March 11.

However, senators and House of Representatives members-elect would have to wait for the issuance of a statement by INEC later today on when their ceremony would hold.

Nigerians have expressed their excitement on social media over the presentation of the certificate of return to the President-elect and Vice President-elect.

“I can’t wait for the ceremony tomorrow. Tinubu and Shettima deserve this win, and I am excited to see them officially receive their certificates of return,” a Twitter user said.

Another user added, “The presentation of the certificate of return to Tinubu and Shettima is just the beginning of the great things to come for Nigeria under their leadership.”

Despite the excitement, some Nigerians have expressed their concern about the fairness and transparency of the election, with some alleging voter fraud and irregularities.

However, Tinubu’s supporters are optimistic about the future of Nigeria under his leadership, and the presentation of the certificate of return is seen as a step towards achieving that future.
