Liverpool take their anger out on West Ham in 5-1 rout

Talk about taking an anger out on an innocent opponent, then you have a Liverpool side going on a 5-1 road rage at Anfield against West Ham United.

The 0-0 draw versus Manchester United hit the Reds hard last weekend, and a return to Anfield in the Carabao Cup was the only way they could get on the good graces of its fanbase who left the Stadium last Sunday feeling disappointed at not securing maximum points against their bitter rivals.

The 5-1 rout over their London visitors to kick Liverpool into the Carabao Cup Semi-final however cleaned whatever taint the Red Devils left Anfield with, and though Roy Keane may have found Virgil van Dijk arrogant for saying ‘there was only one team who wanted to win’, tonight, it was one team who actually won.

Liverpool started with the fire from the very first press and kick of the game, with Hungarian Captain, Dominik Szobozslai who faced his own share of criticism on Sunday, inspiring the Reds to an early, with yet another stunner for a goal to set the night rolling.

The Merseyside team carried the first half with the flame burning, with multiple attempts at West Ham goal to double the lead, but it wasn’t until the second half that a different fire of goals came raining.

Curtis Jones, proved his worth in midfield and in the game, doubling Liverpool’s lead thanks to a Darwin Nunez assist from the Left flank.

Cody Gakpo also got his day in court to triple the lead shortly after for the Reds, but the Liverpool defense found itself wanting when Jarrod Bowen sealed an opportunity to get West Ham back in the game.

However, Bowen’s goal for West Ham remained what it was; a consolation as Liverpool went on to net two successive goals shortly after.

Strikes from Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones who completed his brace on the night, sealed the 5-1 rout for Liverpool to ensure a place in the Semi-Final of the Carabao Cup.
