Sowore’s supporter storms court in cultural apparel

On Tuesday, chaos was the order of the day at the Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja, when a man dressed in cultural apparel accompanied the Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, to court.

The unidentified supporter was in court to witness proceedings in his trial, along with four others, on three charges bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assembly and incitement.

He wore a black and red striped robe and a cap made from the same material. On his ride hand, he held a calabash, while he held to another reddish object on his left hand

Items like snail shell, white cowries and what looked like a dried skull of an animal were attached to his robe.

During proceedings, a prosecution witness, identified simply as ASP Sylvester, gave evidence about how the defendants were apprehended in the early hours of January 1, 2021 while allegedly engaging in unlawful assembly and inciting public disturbance.

While being cross-examined by lawyer for the defendants, Marshal Abubakar, the witness said he did not personally arrest Sowore, but was a member of the team that arrested all the defendants.

Before adjourning further proceedings till May 7, 2021, the Chief Magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello, varied the conditions attached to the bail earlier granted to the second and fifth defendants by granting them permission to travel outside Abuja.
