Nigerian youths are only interested in tagging behind old politicians – Sowore speaks [Video]

Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has expressed his belief that Nigerian youths are content with accompanying the older generation rather than actively seeking to assume leadership of the country.

He made this statement in response to the inauguration of Bassirou Diomaye Faye, a 44-year-old, as the President of Senegal.

Sowore criticised the mindset of young Nigerians when it comes to politics, expressing concern that their focus seems to be on securing positions as special assistants to governors or senators.

Sowore expressed his concerns during Tuesday’s episode of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Faye was inaugurated during a ceremony in Dakar on Tuesday, which was graced by the presence of numerous African leaders.

From New Jersey in the United States (USA), Sowore emphasised the importance of Nigerian youths being more bold in politics, drawing inspiration from the recent events in Senegal.

Sowore said, “Our young people are concerned with doing what I call tag-along. They are more interested in becoming special assistants to governors or senators.

“Youthfulness is also important in the sense that you need leaders that are alert and capable and responsive and do not have to spend half of the time in the hospital.”
