Sheikh Gumi calls for national unity in combating banditry

Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi, has reported a “productive interaction” with federal agencies following his invitation by the Federal Government regarding his comments on bandit activities in Nigeria.

The meeting aimed to strategize on curbing banditry nationwide.

This development comes after the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, disclosed the government’s decision to invite Sheikh Gumi for questioning, emphasising that no one is above the law.

Sheikh Gumi gained attention for offering to negotiate with bandits responsible for the abduction of schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in Kaduna State.

In a post on his social media handle, Sheikh Gumi reassured his followers, stating that there was no need for alarm.

He emphasised the cordial nature of the meeting and called for unity and synergy to achieve lasting peace.

His post read, “Last night I got many frantic calls from well-wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security.

There is no cause for alarm. Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to curb banditry as we are all trying — each in his sphere — to tackle the monster bedevilling the nation.”

Sheikh Gumi highlighted the atmosphere of respect and courtesy during the meeting, emphasizing the need for national unity to combat the challenges facing the country.

“I thank you for your concern. May Allah continue to protect us from all evil. Amin,” he concluded.
