Pharrell Williams rocks GQ’s “The New Masculinity” Issue | See Photos!

Pharrell Williams rocks GQ’s “The New Masculinity” Issue | See Photos!

American singer, Pharrell Williams is the latest star to cover GQ Magazine’s “The new Masculinity” issue, an exploration of identity, culture, and style in 2019.

He shares about about masculinity, working through thorny ideas about the patriarchy, about the politics of gender and sexual identity in 2019 and beyond, about past missteps and his personal evolution.

Talking about Pharrell Williams, GQ says:

Pharrell has been an agent of change his whole career. When he broke into the public consciousness, about 20 years ago, as a producer and then as the frontman of N.E.R.D., he looked different from everyone else in hip-hop, wearing slimmer jeans, more fitted skate tees, and mesh trucker hats. That might not sound earth-shattering now, but a whole generation of young African American misfits will tell you that Pharrell Williams was the first time they saw themselves in pop culture.

Here are excerpts of Pharell’s interview:

On opening an art exhibition in Paris, meeting with Chanel rather than just focusing on music

I like to keep things separate. Because I don’t want to get tired of myself. It’s cool to work in different disciplines, but it’s annoying to come off like an arrogant Swiss Army knife. I like to keep things separate so that there’s still that element of surprise. I think that’s important when it comes to any kind of art: the element of Wait, what? Rather than I did this, and that, and this, and that…

On being respectful

Oh, I started bowing almost 20 years ago, when I met Nigo. Because up until meeting him, my greatest references—the guys that garnered the most respect—were the guys with the big Bentleys. My big brother Jay. Big brother Puff. They were not quiet about being successful. They had created this energy of what success could look like for us as African American men. We saw that in Virginia and looked up to that. Like, wow. First of all, it’s possible. Second of all, this is the way you’ve gotta do it. And they had a lot of music to back it up.

On his definition of Masculinity

I think the truest definition of masculinity is the essence of you that understands and respects that which isn’t masculine. If you ask me, when we talk about masculinity, it’s also very racial, this conversation. Because the dominant force on this planet right now is the older straight white male. And there’s a particular portion of them that senses a tanning effect. They sense a feminizing effect. They sense a nonbinary effect when it comes to gender.

Northboi threatened by Wizkid with a gun [READ FULL DETAILS]

Published

on

Northboi calls out Wizkid

Northboi, the producer of Wizkid’s recent hit song, ‘Joro’ is dragging the artist for not giving him credit for the song.

Northboi who became popular from his work with Wizkid on Soco went on Twitter to rant about not being mentioned by an artiste who people concluded to be Wizkid for his work on Joro.

Although Northboi did not mention Wizkid’s name, the song which he referred to as the two biggest songs ‘Ojuelegba’ and ‘Don’t Dull’ are from Wizkid so it is safe to imply he is talking about Wizkid. He said;

imagine being so powerful person wey you do beat for dey fear to promote you make you no pass am. Na my hand you collect your last global hit. after me all you have is ojuelegba and dont dull.

Northboi calls out Wizkid

This revelation was made when Twitter users blamed him for releasing his beat without signing a contract. Responding to that, Northboi revealed that Wizkid had threatened him with a gun if he did not release the beat to Joro.

Northboi calls out Wizkid

This same act was revealed by Northboi who said ‘Joro’ was not the first time Wizkid would be pulling such a stunt at him as he had done same with his song with Damian Marley where the Soco singer had allegedly refused to sign a contract but rather prefers using a gun threat to get the music out.

Northboi calls out Wizkid

A tweet from Northboi in September was the first clue of something going on between both artiste but a lot of people did not get that gist until now when it looks like Northboi can no longer take Wizkid’s expression of love for Kiddominant but then, looks can be deceiving and what it looks like might not be it.

According to Northboi’s tweet in September, all he does for Wizkid is drop beats, gets paid and move on with zero input as to how the beat gets used.

Northboi calls out Wizkid

As at the time of this post, Wizkid has not debunked or accepted these accusations but the question here is; if Northboi gets paid and moves on, does this mean he is no longer making money from hit songs like “Soco” and the recently released “Joro” after the one-time payment?

Do let us know what you think below…

Mariah Carey- Make It Look Good Lyrics

Mariah Carey- Make It Look Good Lyrics

You make me wanna say
Yeah, yeah
Oh boy, you make me say

Something about you makes every girl hot
Suffering without you
I just want a taste of what you got
But my mama always told me not to

Play with those players who play you til there’s no more
Game left to be played
Look at what you got me going through
Can’t help myself because

You make it look good (make it look good)
Say you make it look good (make it look gooder than them other fools)
Around you when I ain’t supposed to be
Acting like I know you notice me
Fantasize about the way you lick your lips
Fingertips on my hips as we dip
Oh, boy, you make it look good (make it look gooder than them other fools)

Baby baby sometimes, I need you
But I feel so shy
Simply can’t leave you
‘Cause them other girls are gonna try
Guess their mama never told them not to

Play with those players who play you til there’s no more
Game left to be played
Look at what you got me going through
Can’t help myself because

You make it look good (make it look good)
Said you make it look good (make it look gooder than them other fools)
Around you when I ain’t supposed to be
Acting like I know you notice me
Fantasize about the way you lick your lips
Fingertips on my hips as we dip
Oh, boy, you make it look good (make it look gooder than them other fools)

Ooh boy
And it makes every girl high
Oh boy, you make me say
Ooh, ooh boy, you
My mama said don’t play with them players
No, no
Look at what you got me going through
Fantasize about the way you lick your lips
Oh, it’s gooder than them other boys
Yes, it is

No preacher can reach more souls than Kanye West – Sonnie Badu claims

Published

on

Sonnie Badu speaks on Kanye West

UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician and preacher Sonnie Badu has a strong feeling that American rapper Kanye West has the ability to win more souls for Christ than most preachers and gospel artistes.

He made this statement in a lengthy Instagram post on Tuesday, September 17.

According to the “Baba” hitmaker, the husband of Kim Kardashian could have a bad past but his influence can help him win more souls for Christ.

He backed his claim with the story of Paul (formerly Saul) in the bible, saying Kanye ‘can fill arenas and win souls for Christ, more than all of us’.

Sonnie shared the cover artwork of Kanye’s upcoming album “Jesus is King” with the caption:

“The disciples had a major concern about Paul. Why? Because they just could not fathom how they could spend 3 years with the Master and yet Paul who was a killer, had never met him had more insight and wrote more books in the scriptures than they did. Well, the reason is quite simple.

What God could use Paul to do, he could not use Peter in that same regard (illiteracy and understanding times and seasons ). Recall Paul was very well educated and well informed, with that said, this man @kanyew.est can fill arenas and win souls for Christ, more than all of us . But they wondered about his past though..well, just ask God who knows and sees all things.

” So he states JESUS IS KING” Even if he never says it again, this release will get millions looking for Jesus. The truth is no preacher, bishop nor gospel artist can reach out to the lost than this man based on his exposure, so God picks him … I watch the service at @newbirthmbc with my brother pastor @jamalhbryant , his humility was amazing , he had on T-shirt, it was all about God … The gospel is being preached around the world, and this is it. Bearing in mind that we’ve all been commissioned to be fishers of men for Christ. Have you been called?? Food for thought”.

“Jesus is King”, which is Kanye West’s 9th studio project, is scheduled for release on September 2
