Police, hunters rescue abducted UNIJOS Prof., Ayanbimpe and husband

Professor Grace Ayanbimpe of the University of Jos (Unijos) has regained her freedom barely 24 hours after she was abducted by gunmen.

The rescued Professor with the Department of Medical Microbiology in Unijos was freed along with her husband, Femi Ayanbimpe.

They were abducted by gunmen on Monday at their home situated behind Haske quarters, Lamingo in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State

It was gathered that the gunmen had contacted the family soon after their kidnapping and demanded N15 million ransom.

Meanwhile, it could not be ascertained if any ransom was paid, but a family source affirmed their freedom to our journalist in Jos on Tuesday.

The source stated, “Yes, the couple has been released by their abductors last night unhurt.

“But they have not returned to their house because they have been taken to the hospital for examination. But we thank God for everything.”

The representative of the State Police Command, ASP Ubah Ogaba who also confirmed the release of the couple declared that they were freed by a joint operation of security agents which include hunters.

The Police representative said, “With the concerted effort of the Police Tactical team Plateau State Command, hunters and vigilantes, the kidnapped victims – Prof Grace Ayanbimpe and her husband Mr Isaac Ayanbimpe – were released unhurt.”
