Osun set to provide affordable healthcare

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has stated that his administration is prepared to put in place an affordable health system that will be beneficial to the citizens of the state.

Gov. Oyetola made this known on Friday during the flag-off of the Maternal New Born and Child Health Week in Osogbo.

While affirming that health is one of the cardinal programmes of his administration, Oyetola assured that the wellbeing of citizens of the state was of top priority and such the government would do whatever it takes to continue with laudable government intervention.

He asked pregnant women and nursing mothers to judiciously use the items that will be distributed to them.

The governor who appreciated the international and local development partners for their collaborations also encouraged the state health workforce to redouble their efforts in the provision of standard health care services.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Osun State Primary Healthcare Board, Sola Ogunleke said the programme would cut across the 332 wards in the state.

Ogunleke who also revealed that the COVID-19 vaccination booster dose would commence in the state in the coming week called on all eligible individuals who have completed their first and second doses within a space of six months to avail themselves and get vaccinated.

In her goodwill message, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) representative in the state, Dr Roseline Oyesiji urged the state government to increase the number of vaccination days from 5 to 7 as the days initially allotted to the exercise would not be enough to immunise half a million under 5 children in the state.

Some of the interventions that will be available during the immunisation campaign are the administration of Vitamin A, nutrition screening, deworming, immunisation, distribution of iron foliate, family planning, HIV testing and counselling, health education and distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets.
