One of the biggest privileges of my life -- Ashleigh Plumptre

Nigerian defender, Ashleigh Plumptre has reacted to the early exit of the Super Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament following a 4-2 loss on penalties to the England Lionesses.

Taking to her social media handle on Instagram, the former England international and Leicester City star notes how proud she feels playing by her Super Falcons teammates at the tournament.

Ashleigh Plumptre spoke a few days after the fixture, praising the journey the squad went on prior and during the course of the FIFA tournament.

According to her, it gave her the opportunity to delve deeper into her identity and to learn what it means to have the “Naija Spirit”.

She notes how the Super Falcons were able to showcase to the world what a unified, determined and empowered group of women were capable of achieving.

Ashleigh Plumptre played all through the four fixtures of the tournament the Super Falcons participated in, going as far as to play 90 minutes plus in roughly all 4 games.

“It’s been one of the biggest privileges of my life to stand alongside some of the most resilient, talented and inspiring women I’ve ever met.

“While many emotions have been felt over the course of this tournament, I go home feeling incredibly grateful.

“Grateful that this journey has given me the opportunity to go deeper into my own identity, learn more about what it means to have “Naija spirit” and to showcase to the world what a unified, determined and empowered group of women are capable of achieving.

Plumptre currently is a free agent following the expiration of her contract with Leicester City women.
