Nigerian Singer, Omawumi Megbele, popularly known as Omawonder, has opened up how she was body-shamed at a very young age.

The Singer in a post via her Instagram, revealed how as a kid, she was being called all such names and how it affected her self-esteem because she allowed them to get to her.
She further revealed how because of self-esteem she would wear heavy makeup just to hide her flaws because she felt imperfect. But things changed as she is now madly in love with her imperfections.
According to her, she can decide to change or hide her flaws, but she will not be pressurized into shrinking in someone’s perception of her direct all the decisions she makes for herself.
She wrote: “I was one of those kids they used to call, Hammer Headed, Ogorstina, and Ekpengbe forehead. Infact one of my aunts used to call me Beauty, she said she was using it to prophecy into my life that I will be pretty someday. Well, there was a time I allowed it to get to me, there was a time that I couldn’t step out without being heavily decked up in makeup. I would do all manners of things to hide my flaws because I felt imperfect.”
“Now the only thing that had changed is that I’m madly in love with my imperfect me, with my Ekpengbe forehead, with my knock knees, With my cellulites and stretch marks like a map of Africa, I’m in love with my skin and everything within.”
“And guess what, I can still decide to change or hide a flaw because that too is ok, what I won’t do is allow anybody’s perception of me to direct the decisions I make for myself. I am Beautiful..You are beautiful too.”
Omawumi Megbele, popularly known as Omawumi, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and an actress of Itsekiri ethnicity. She is also a brand ambassador for Globacom, Konga.com, and Malta Guinness.
