How Simon Ekpa was arrested in Finland
Simon Ekpa, a Finnish-Nigerian self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has been arrested in Finland, along with four others, for alleged terror-related offenses.
Reports indicate that Ekpa was taken into custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court, facing charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.
The Finnish Central Criminal Police announced the arrests on November 21, confirming that Ekpa is considered the main suspect.
His detention stems from allegations of promoting violence against civilians and authorities in South-Eastern Nigeria through social media channels.
Alongside Ekpa, four individuals were arrested for allegedly financing terrorist activities.
The investigation highlights the significant role of international cooperation as authorities continue to examine the suspects’ connections to ongoing violence in Nigeria.
Crime Commissioner Otto Hiltunen emphasized the importance of the case, noting that the preliminary investigation focuses on the activities of a Finnish citizen of Nigerian descent, born in the 1980s.
The Päijät-Häme district court is set to hear claims related to the case today.
