Nigerian Govt Urged To Create Enabling Environment For Entrepreneurs To Thrive

Creative Enterprise for Development Initiative, an NGO, on Thursday advised the Federal Government to create enabling environment and policies that would allow entrepreneurs to thrive in the country.

Mr Ayodele Sebiotimo, Founder of the NGO, gave the advice at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Youth Organisation for Self-Sustenance in Nigeria (YOS), an NGO, in Abuja.

The theme of the programme was: “Unifying our Generation to focus on Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Creation for all inclusion National Efficiency, Rather than Unfruitful Agitations, Political and Ethnical Division.”

He stressed the need for government to address factors restraining entrepreneurs from reaching their potential such as lack of access to land, capital, fair taxes and government bureaucracy.

According to him, only entrepreneurs can create the millions of jobs that are required to power the nation’s economy out of poverty and create successful businesses.

Sebiotimo, therefore, emphasised the need for government, private sector and development partners to give priority attention to entrepreneurship development.

” The truth is that the current unemployment concerns cannot be solved by government alone, we need to democratise job creation and the surest way to achieve this is by creating and empowering more entrepreneurs.

“I advise the Federal Government to assist our young entrepreneurs by creating the enabling environment and introduce policies that allow them to strive.

“If we are serious about solving the unemployment challenges facing Nigeria, we must fully address these issues restraining our entrepreneurs from reaching their full potential.

“Addressing issues such as access to land and capital, fair taxes and less government bureaucracy, will go a long way in supporting Small Scale and Medium Enterprises to grow their business.”

Mr Stanley Nwadiriora, the President of Youth Organisation for Self-Sustenance in Nigeria (YOS), said entrepreneurship was a solution to the nation’s most pressing social, cultural and environmental challenges.

He admonished youth graduate to embrace the spirit of self-reliance through entrepreneurship to enable them compete with for wealth creation opportunities with the best from anywhere in the world.

YOS is a leadership, entrepreneurship, mentorship and advocacy organisation, envisioned toward ideas and creative plans for advancing the course of the young people.
