A sad day for the Nigerian film industry as it loses one of its own in Nollywood actor, Leonard  Chimezie Onyemachi, popularly known as Leo Mezie.

The actor was announced dead hours ago with reports stating he died on Saturday, May 14, after a long battle with kidney disease.

It was revealed the actor had dealt with the illness for 4 years, having had kidney transplant years back, with another transplant coming a week ago. The reports state his death came possibly from complications.

From reports by those who were connected to the actor, Mezie had been in and out of the hospital in his struggles with the disease.

His colleague, Chioma Toplis, was the one who made the announcement of his passing on social media this afternoon, writing in quote:

”Actor Leo Mezie is dead. He died on Saturday in Abuja while recovering from kidney transplant. His corpse has been moved to Umuahia his hometown. RIP Leo” she wrote

The news becoming public knowledge, drew a lot of criticisms towards the Nigerian Actors Guild with Nigerians blaming its stakeholders for abandoning their colleague when they stood a chance at helping him.

The actor is known for films like the 2005 film, Never End, Total War, Heart of a Slave, No Man’s Land, Church and Tradition, Secret Adventure and many more. He was aged 46 prior to his death.
