Mikel Arteta On Ben White
If there has been a player tipped to be a flop upon the announcement of their signing and prior to them kicking a ball all because of a big money move from a lesser club, then it’s former Brighton defender, Ben White.
The Englishman’s first season at Arsenal was roughly one that included him needing to prove himself to his new club while facing quite a number of criticisms over small individual errors made in defence.
But like football always is, it is all short term, with Ben White turning things around to become a key member in Arsenal’s very first XI.
Much can be said for the Gunners’ goal keeper, Aaron Ramsdale too who like White, has risen to become an influence in the team as they go into Sunday’s fixture against Chelsea needing a win.
Ben White, who has seen his stars rise as a defender for Arsenal, has been praised by manager Mikel Arteta as a very special and bright player.
White is a brave football player, according to Arteta, who also noted that the England international will give it his all even if instructed to play in midfield.
This was stated by the former Manchester City assistant coach prior to Sunday’s away Premier League encounter between Arsenal and Chelsea.
Arteta said, “I think he [White] is very happy. I think he is really enjoying it. He finds himself with a bit of freedom and you can see, when he has space, how he likes to attack. I think he is happy there.
“Physically, he is a really special player. He is very intelligent and very gifted, and he has a lot of courage to play this game.
“If you tell him to play in midfield, he will. And he will give his best.”
From the Gunners’ boss’ statement, White has gained the trust of the manager and the team to be considered a special player as opposed to the €50 million flop from Brighton and Hove Albion he was tipped to become.
