Meta fires 24 employees for spending money on private items

Talk about abiding by principle, Meta — the parent company of Facebook and Instagram has fired two dozen employees.

The report comes from the company’s Los Angeles office where a calculated number of 24 persons were given the boot for misusing company meal vouchers in the most unexpected ways.

Instead of treating themselves to meals while on the clock, some staff members allegedly splurged on laundry detergent, wine glasses, and even acne treatment pads, raising eyebrows and sparking an internal investigation.

Meta provides its corporate teams with an array of lavish food services, but those in smaller offices without such perks receive meal vouchers valued at $20 for breakfast and $25 for both lunch and dinner. Intended to keep employees fueled during work hours, these funds instead went towards personal shopping sprees, including meal deliveries to home addresses—a blatant breach of company policy.

This latest round of firings comes on the heels of broader layoffs as Meta continues to reshape its workforce amid financial scrutiny. Spokesperson Tracy Clayton confirmed the shift, stating, “Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals.” While the exact number of layoffs remains undisclosed, the company has already shed over 20,000 positions in the past year alone.

As Meta navigates a turbulent landscape marked by revenue declines and stagnant user growth—referred to by CEO Mark Zuckerberg as a “year of efficiency”—the company’s stock has impressively soared by nearly 80% compared to last year.

However, the misuse of meal credits adds a layer of irony to Meta’s push for resource optimization, leaving employees and observers alike questioning the lengths some will go to when it comes to free food.
