Mason Greenwood attracts big interest from Serie A club

In the wake of his expulsion and exit from Manchester United, Red Devils’ academy graduate, Mason Greenwood is reportedly attracting big interest from Serie A club, AS Roma.

On Monday, Manchester United officially announced that following an internal inquiry into his behavior, the 21-year-old forward would be leaving the club through mutual consent.

Greenwood had been suspended by Manchester United in January 2022 following his apprehension on suspicion of rape and assault. Subsequently, he faced charges of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm.

However, these charges were dropped in February when the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) concluded that a lack of key witnesses and the emergence of new evidence rendered a conviction unlikely.

After the internal investigation that spanned half a year coupled with a host of controversies plaguing Greenwood’s return to the club, Manchester United reached the decision to let go of the 21-year-old.

Both the club and Mason Greenwood are now seeking to facilitate a transfer or loan arrangement away from Old Trafford.

Recent reports from talkSPORT suggest that AS Roma is considering the prospect of acquiring Greenwood from Manchester United.

AS Roma is believed to be one among several Italian clubs purportedly interested in acquiring the young forward.

Greenwood’s name had surfaced in Serie A transfer talks more than once during Manchester United’s internal inquiry.

Sources indicate that Roma has indeed reached out to Manchester United concerning Mason Greenwood, although the precise extent of the Italian club’s interest remains uncertain.

The managerial helm at Roma is currently occupied by Jose Mourinho, who oversaw Manchester United when Greenwood inked his initial professional contract in October 2018. However, Greenwood’s senior debut came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Further insights from The Athletic reveal that Turkish clubs had extended offers for Greenwood while Manchester United’s internal inquiry was ongoing. These offers, however, were declined by the English side.
