Man remanded for allegedly swindling commercial sex worker of 2k

Victor Emeka, a 30-year-old man, has been remanded in a correctional centre by a Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja, for allegedly defrauding a commercial sex worker.

Emeka, who pleaded not guilty to the charges of criminal breach of trust and theft, was charged by the police.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Chinedu Ogada, informed the court that the sex worker, l Sandra Orogbo of White House Hotel Abuja reported the incident to the Zuba Police Station on March 17.

According to Ogada, the defendant went to the hotel and patronised the complainant with a promise to pay her N2,000 for her services on March 16.

However, after Orogbo provided her services, Emeka refused to pay her and instead deceived her to Suleja, where he collected her cell phone valued at N60,000 before fleeing.

Ogada also said that the defendant was later arrested and handed over to the police for investigation.

The judge, Mr Saminu Suleiman, ordered that the defendant should be taken to Suleja correctional centre until May 5, when the facts of the case would be reviewed.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 265 and 287 of the Penal Code.

In other news, the world of finance and technology is no stranger to scandals, but the latest news of fraud and deception by the founder of Frank, Charlie Javice, has left many feeling emotional and betrayed.

The 30-year-old entrepreneur, who was once a proud member of the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, is now facing up to 30 years in prison for her alleged role in defrauding banking giant JPMorgan of $175 million. She faces more than 100 years in jail if convicted.

Frank was launched in 2016 as a financial platform to help college students manage their financial aid and student debt. Javice had a grand vision of turning Frank into “an Amazon for higher education.” However, it seems that in her quest for success, she resorted to unethical practices that have now cost her dearly.
