Man charged to court for stealing skull from cemetery in Lagos

A middle-aged man was charged to court on Tuesday, May 31 for alleged possession of a human skull dugged out in a Lagos cemetery.

The said man, identified as Ebuka Enuma, 38 was arraigned before a Yaba magistrate court in Lagos on Tuesday, May 31 for breaking into Amukoko cemetery ad excavating an old grave.

It’s gathered that suspect who lives in the Bariga area of Lagos, made away with the human skull on May 13.

However, he was nabbed while trying to leave the cemetery, Prosecution Counsel, ASP Rita Momah said.

The offence, she said, contravenes the provisions of Section 238 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Ebuka Enuma, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him. The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo admitted him to bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties.

The case was then adjourned till June 28 for mention.

In related news, a man identified as Kushimo Lukman, a mortuary attendant has been arrested on Tuesday, May 21 in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, for cutting off the head of a deceased boy.

Kushimo was arrested by men of the Ogun State Government-owned security outfit, the So-Safe Corps on Tuesday morning. The So-Safe Corps said the suspect was “an acclaimed mortuary attendant working with MABOD at Oke-Yidi, Abule Oloni, Abeokuta.”

According to the spokesman, Moruf Yusuf, the suspect was arrested by the officers after he had behe#ded the corpse of a male minor at the Oke Yidi cemetery in Abeokuta.”

The suspect was quoted to have said that “the parents of the boy, who came from Ibadan, sought his assistance as a mortuary attendant to get the body buried,” adding that “he buried the boy’s body inside the cemetery, in the presence of his parents at about 19:00hrs on Monday.”

However, the mortuary attendant was later said to have returned to the cemetery at 6 a.m. on Tuesday to chop the head of the buried child, and he was apprehended after a furious battle with So-Safe personnel, who eventually overcame him.


Kushimo “confessed that the fresh head was requested for by one Chief Ifalonishe (AKA Lanroye) at the rate of N50,000,” saying “it was supposed to be delivered to him at a designated point within Abeokuta.”
