Liverpool returns with bid for Real Madrid star

Liverpool has reportedly reignited its interest in Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, according to a surprising report from Spain.

The Merseyside club had previously attempted to sign the French international last summer while he was still playing for Ligue 1 side Monaco.

However, their pursuit was thwarted by Spanish giants Real Madrid, who secured Tchouameni’s services in a deal worth up to £85 million, inclusive of add-ons. Despite making 50 appearances in his debut season at the Bernabeu, the 23-year-old has predominantly featured as a substitute and has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.

With Real Madrid recently acquiring Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, Tchouameni’s playing time could potentially diminish further, prompting speculation about his future with the club.

The Catalan outlet El Nacional has claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains an admirer of Tchouameni and has given the green light for the club to pursue the midfielder. It is alleged that Liverpool has submitted an initial offer of €55 million (£47 million) for the former Bordeaux star.

While Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is said to be open to selling Tchouameni, he is reportedly seeking a fee of €85 million (£68 million) for the talented player.

Although Liverpool has been linked with various midfield targets, including Khephren Thuram from Nice, Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach, and Gabri Veiga from Celta Vigo, the renewed interest in Tchouameni has come as a surprise to many.

Notably, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has publicly urged his former club to pursue Aurelien Tchouameni during this transfer window. Speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, Ferdinand expressed his admiration for the midfielder, describing him as an outstanding prospect who is currently not receiving sufficient playing time at Real Madrid.

Liverpool’s reported bid for Tchouameni signifies their intention to strengthen their midfield options and add depth to their squad. As negotiations unfold, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can secure the services of the highly-rated French midfielder and bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
