Liverpool reportedly eye Renato Sanches transfer move

Liverpool Football Club is reportedly interested in securing a summer transfer for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Renato Sanches. The Portuguese international, who was once dubbed as having had “the worst 45 minutes in Premier League history” while playing for Swansea City, could be on his way to Anfield in the upcoming transfer window.

Sanches came through the youth academy at Benfica and caught the eye of football fans worldwide after winning the Young Player of the Tournament award at Euro 2016, where he helped Portugal lift the trophy. Following his impressive performances, he secured a move to German giants Bayern Munich for an initial fee of €35 million.

However, his first season in Germany didn’t go as planned, and he was loaned to Swansea City for the 2017/18 season. Despite struggling to make an impact in the Premier League, making just 12 appearances before being ruled out due to an injury in January, Sanches has gone on to showcase his huge potential.

He joined Lille in 2019 and won the Ligue 1 title with the club in his second season. That earned him a move to Paris Saint-Germain, where he has scored twice in 16 appearances this season but has suffered numerous injuries.

According to reports from Football Insider, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a “long-term admirer” of the 25-year-old central midfielder and is keen on adding him to his squad for the upcoming season. The Reds see Sanches as a strong alternative to Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, whom they were priced out of a move for.

It is believed that PSG are willing to let Sanches leave the club, alerting Liverpool to the possibility of securing his services. Klopp sees the midfielder’s box-to-box abilities as a much-needed addition to the Liverpool midfield, which has struggled with injuries this season.

The potential move could draw parallels with current Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who also struggled during his first spell in the Premier League before succeeding in another top European league prior to his return. Should Sanches make the move to Liverpool, he could add another dimension to the Reds’ midfield and provide much-needed competition for places.
