Liverpool plots move for ‘exciting’ dynamic forward
Liverpool is reportedly keeping a close watch on RB Leipzig’s dynamic forward, Lois Openda.
The Premier League giants have wasted no time in bolstering their ranks this season, with the recent signings of Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister.
Openda, a 23-year-old Belgian sensation, has been making waves in the Bundesliga since his summer move from Lens, having already notched up an impressive five goals and two assists in just 10 appearances for his new club.
His explosive start to the season has piqued the interest of Liverpool, as well as Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.
RB Leipzig secured Openda’s services in a deal worth an initial €43 million (£37 million), lured by his spectacular debut season in Ligue 1, where he showcased his prowess by netting 21 goals in 38 games.
While Leipzig may currently enjoy a sense of calm regarding Openda’s future, with no active release clause until 2025, reports suggest that any potential suitors will have to dig deep into their pockets, as the rumored price tag could exceed €80 million (£69 million).
Journalist Christian Falk, writing in Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, commented on Liverpool’s interest in Openda, drawing parallels with the success they’ve enjoyed with previous RB Leipzig acquisitions, such as Szoboszlai.
Falk also noted the stylistic similarities between the two clubs, suggesting this could work to Liverpool‘s advantage in any potential deal.
When asked about his aspirations for the future, Openda revealed his ambition to reach the pinnacle of world football, citing Harry Kane of Bayern Munich as a role model.
He humbly acknowledged Kane’s status as one of the world’s best players and expressed his determination to reach similar heights.
