Liverpool Owners FSG Puts Club Up For Sale

It is a report that for a lot of reasons will put smiles on Liverpool fans’ faces owing to recent complaints about the American ownership group of Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

The Merseyside club has seen a lot of results go the wrong way this season compared to prior seasons that has seen the team compete at the top level for titles and trophies. The downward drop this season has led to a lot of calls and hash tags from online platforms spearheaded by those of Liverpool connection for the club to be put up for sale.

The complaints largely stemmed from allegations that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) haven’t invested into the club enough to see Liverpool continually challenge for top titles like its rivals, Manchester City. An example, which they point out being the aged squad the manager, Jurgen Klopp has been left with despite success in recent seasons.

For those who are interested, a complete sales presentation has been created.

FSG had considered chances in the past but chose not to take them. Whether or not a deal will ultimately be completed is unknown, but FSG is accepting bids.

To help in the process, Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have been hired.

FSG, who also owns the Boston Red Sox, provided The Athletic with a statement, stating:

“There have been a number of recent changes of ownership and rumours of changes in ownership at EPL clubs and inevitably we are asked regularly about Fenway Sports Group’s ownership in Liverpool.

“FSG has frequently received expressions of interest from third parties seeking to become shareholders in Liverpool. FSG has said before that under the right terms and conditions we would consider new shareholders if it was in the best interests of Liverpool as a club.

“FSG remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.”

Since purchasing Liverpool from George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks in October 2010, the group has been the club’s owner.

Jurgen Klopp was appointed manager of Liverpool at that time. In 2019–20, they won their first Premier League championship—also their first title in 30 years. In addition, they won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Champions League.

It will be interesting to see the parties that turn up to buy out the club from Fenway Sports Group (FSG) should the deal materialize.
