Kano State Governor’s Daughter Marriage Dissolved

A 16-year-old marriage between Asiya, the daughter of the governor of Kano State, Nigeria, and Inuwa Uba has been dissolved by an Upper Shari’a Court in Kano through Khul’i (divorce by Islamic means).

The court ruled that the conditions for the divorce should not affect the woman and ordered the return of the N50,000 bride price.

The petitioner sought the dissolution of the marriage due to being tired and fed up with the marriage, while the respondent had additional conditions beyond the payment of the bride price. The couple has four children together and previous efforts to reconcile were unsuccessful.
