Edo Deputy Governor moves out of government House

Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, condemned his impeachment by the state’s House of Assembly as “illegal” and based on “trumped-up” charges.

In a pre-recorded video shared on social media, Shaibu refuted allegations of perjury and disclosure of state secrets.

Shaibu asserted that the impeachment was politically motivated, driven by gubernatorial ambitions rather than genuine concerns about his conduct.

He labelled the move as an assault on democracy and warned against a dangerous descent into dictatorship.

Despite his removal from office, Shaibu expressed confidence in the judicial system and vowed to challenge the lawmakers’ decision in court.

He thanked the people of Edo State for their support and emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles.

The former deputy governor’s defiant stance sets the stage for a legal battle to contest his impeachment, highlighting the deep political tensions in Edo State.
