JUST IN: INEC Announces Likely Date For Rerun, Bye-elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that on Thursday, February 1, 2024, it may hold bye-elections and rerun elections around the nation.

This was announced by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on Monday at a meeting with leaders of the country’s major parties.

The courts, he claims, have ordered the commission to hold rerun elections in 34 federal and state seats, including one in the Senate, 11 federal constituencies, and 22 state constituencies.

He also said that INEC would hold bye-elections to replace vacancies caused by the resignation or death of members.

The INEC chairman said that an official election date and a full agenda would be issued at the conclusion of the meeting with party leaders.
