It Was No Mistake Selling Jesus—Gary Neville
Manchester City earlier in the summer faced some sort of criticism over their decision to let stars Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling depart the club for premier league rivals, Arsenal and Chelsea respectively, but according to pundit, Gary Neville, that decision may have been made in hindsight of what was to happen later on.
The former Manchester United defender Gary Neville reveals he was informed of the reasons why Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling were permitted to leave Manchester City for their local rivals in the summer.
Gabriel Jesus’ transfer to Arsenal came as quite the shocker to premier league fans, while Sterling’s move to Chelsea surprised very few fans knowing the rumors that went on about him being unhappy at the club.
The two players had been crucial to Pep Guardiola’s teams’ recent supremacy in the Premier League, coming up with vital impacts to aid Manchester City’s domination of the Premier League.
Gary Neville has since claimed that Guardiola approved transfers for Jesus and Sterling because of the arrival of one player; Julian Alvarez.
Alavarez’s growing reputation has grown as a result of Argentina’s World Cup run in 2022.
“I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid [Alvarez] was the reason.
“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path,” Neville said via Sky Sports’ World Cup podcast.
